Adventure #1: Sunrise

Hi, I’m Rebecca. I don’t really know how to run a blog (I tried one in 9th grade and completely failed), but here I go anyway. Let’s just jump right in, shall we?

This morning I got up at 5:50 for winter quarter registration, which started at 6. Once I got all my classes squared away, I looked out my window and saw this:

I live on the 5th floor of my dorm, and the views at sunrise are absolutely incredible. Here’s a little collage of sunrise photos I’ve taken since I moved here in late September. I can’t believe the variety of colors I see.

One of my roommates, a photographer, wanted to take photos at the waterfront (you can see the lake in my pictures) before it gets any colder and rainier, so that’s what we did! We walked down seven flights of stairs to the basement parking lot of our building and set off toward the water. It looked like there was a fire burning.

We went through a big parking lot, over a little bridge, and past a few trees, most of their leaves gone by now.

There’s a tiny little wilderness area down by the water where, evidently, runners like to go in the morning. I didn’t take any pictures of them, but there were a few interesting ones, including three people with dogs and a middle-aged man with capri-length leggings and five finger shoes.

We walked along some little meandering paths, breath fogging in front of us, my nose about to freeze off, until we reached the lake I’ve seen so often out my window.

A little group of ducks was swimming around, and the crew team was rowing their way across the lake. I have no idea how any of them stayed warm. That water must have been freezing; we saw two very small ponds nearby that had actually frozen over.

The sun tried its best to come up, but it was stuck behind a cloud, illuminating everything without giving any of the direct light that my friend was hoping for in her photos.

At some point, we realized how cold we were. The ground was frosty, and so were our shoes by then:

So we said goodbye to the lake and headed back to the dorm, just in time for me to grab the stuff I needed for the day and leave for my 8:30 lecture.
